Church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin
It was built in the 6th century near the temples of Hercules and
Ceres. The name derives from the fact that the church had been turned
over the Greeks. The district between the Aventine and the Tiber
was inhabited by Greeks. On the left side of the portico is a marble
mask called Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth). In the foreground
the Triton fountain (1715).
