Castle St Angel.
Castle St. Angel is the ancient mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian. This
fortress-link building was intended as a sepulchre for Hadrian and
its family. In about 520 Theodoric transformed the building into
a stat prison, a role it was destined for many centuries. The Castle
is steeped in memories of bloodshed and crime, and famous prisoners
were held there.
